Baker Francisco Carvajal

Francisco's story
When the World Bank lends money to poor countries, it often comes with strings attached. In exchange for debt relief, Nicaragua was forced to privatise its electricity industry. Now ordinary people like Francisco, a baker, are paying the price. Help us reform the Bank by sending his story to the UK government.
Campaign update
Douglas Alexander, Secretary of State for International Development, received more than 10,000 actions from UK campaigners asking him to withhold funding from the World Bank. Thank you to everyone who sent a postcard or email.
We are disappointed that the government has decided to increase its funding to the Bank given the damage caused by this type of privatisation condition when attached to loans.
