Their globe: improving the health of pregnant women around the world
by Pressureworks, published 9, August 2005
Why do you think your goal is important?
The well being of society is directly linked to the health and survival of mothers and children. It is a human right to have basic medical care during pregnancy and childbirth in all parts of the world.
'One in sixteen women die in developing countries during or after childbirth. In the developed countries the figure is more like one in 28,000...'
We were shocked to realise that one in sixteen women die in developing countries during or after childbirth. In the developed countries the figure is more like one in 28,000. It is at the core of the stuggle against poverty and inequality.
Where did you find the inspiration for your design?
The inspiration came from the Montessori nursery school colours used to depict the different continents  of the world and our globe represents the shape of the female form when pregnant.
How important is politics in art?
'Artists should definitely get involved in projects like Christian Aid...'
Artists can effectively raise awareness of political issues in a gallery context in a direct and unique way that cannot be done so effectively in other forums.
Artists should definitely get involved in projects like Christian Aid. Society benefits greatly from artists involvement in social and economic issues as they offer a fresh and unique perspective
