Why conferences
Why conferences
Why conferences?
by Pressureworks, published 30 January, 2006
Like-minded people, a shared platform, and the free exchange of ideas ... now that, is a good conference.
Patek Philippe watches, multiple cellphones, identikit business suits and Alfred Dunhill briefcases; if you’ve ever been to a nice hotel in a major city, chances are you’ve met them– the people who sustain the market for £80 Hermes ties you buy on the plane.  But  it doesn't have to be that way. Here are 4 tips to spot a good conference:
  1. A TIME TO SHARE -  People in all professions are going to be at different levels along their journey.  In meetings, a lot can be gained from people further on in that journey. A good conference  is an excellent chance to accelerate the learning processes.
  2. LEARN FROM OTHERS MISTAKES - There are always new ways of doing things and different approaches being tried out all the time rather than repeating others mistakes a lot can be learned from people who have already done it.
  3. MEET LIKE-MINDED SOULS -  Conferences provide an opportunity to feel inspired and motivated by others. They can also give you confidence that you are working on the right approach - if others are endorsing your work, it gives you confidence to expand. We all need help sometimes.
  4. PUTTING A FACE TO A NAME - Last but not least: there's the good old-fashioned idea of getting to know the face at the other end of the email!
