Everyone has a part to play in a good campaign
Children watch planes in sky
Everyone can do it
by Pressureworks, published 4 January, 2006
Everyone has a part to play in a good campaign. There is something each of us can contribute, and no matter how small the contribution, it makes a difference.
This is because to get a campaign noticed action needs to be taken at different levels, and pressure applied in different ways. This creates loads of opportunities for people to do something. What that 'something' is, depends on each of us - on how much time we have; on our skills and interests, and how deeply we want to get involved. Action comes in all shapes and sizes. Some of it is about lobbying and persuading decision-makers, some is about raising public awareness or generating publicity. Ideally a campaign involves and mobilises as many people as possible.

Campaigning actions can include:
  • Writing letters and signing petitions
  • Visiting and lobbying your MP
  • Going on demonstrations
  • Organising events
  • Running your own local campaign group
  • Getting publicity into the media
  • Buying and promoting certain products over others.
You are getting closer to the changes you want. Never give up.
Successful campaigning takes time. It's a gradual process and sometimes things happen frustratingly slowly. But as momentum builds you'll see the things you care about finally getting the attention they deserve. You are getting closer to the changes you want. Never give up.
