Join the Cut the Carbon shoelace petition
Help us turn old shoelaces into a force for real climate change action. We want to deliver hundreds of thousands of shoelaces to the government to press it to strengthen the upcoming Climate Change Bill. And we need your help in getting as many people as possible to take part in our shoelace petition.
How you can take part
We're asking prime minister Gordon Brown to cut the C02 emissions of UK companies and take action internationally. We want him to strengthen the upcoming Climate Change Bill and push for other countries to match this at UN talks in Bali in December.
We're asking people to send us an old shoelace and replace it with the ultimate eco-accessory - our Cut the Carbon shoelace! If you want to do more, why not organise a local collection in your church, school or workplace.
To join the petition, you can:
Text CUT to 84880. Standard text rates apply.
Order an action card and return it to Christian Aid with an old shoelace (more details below)
Start a local collection (more details below).
Email Gordon Brown

Get collecting!
We're asking people to dig out an old shoelace and add their name to the petition. Here's what you need to do:
1. Set up a collection point
A box at the back of church, at school or even your local gym - anywhere that's visible and easily accessible for people to hand in a shoelace.
2. Order action cards and Cut the Carbon shoelaces
As well as their shoelace we need their name to add to the petition. We've produced ready made cards to have alongside your collection point which you can order by calling 08700 787 788 (quote F1398). Order your Cut the Carbon shoelaces to replace the old laces by calling 08700 787 788 and quote F1427. Shoelaces suggested donation £1 per lace.
3. Return the action cards and old shoelaces to Christian Aid
The petition will last until the Bill is due to be passed in spring 2008. But we'll be adding up totals as we go - so send in the shoelaces you've collected so far so that we can announce how the petition is going: on 2 October as the Cut the Carbon march ends in London, before the UN climate change talks in Bali in December and before the Climate Change bill is passed in Spring 2008.
You can return your cards and shoelaces either directly to Christian Aid at Supporter Relations, PO Box 100, London, SE1 7RT or drop them off at your local Christian Aid office.
4. Tell local media
We want as many people as possible to be given the chance to take part in the petition. You could use local media to spread the action for you, especially if you get a photo of a local celebrity - a Bishop, an MP, or TV personality - adding their shoelace to the petition.
Christian Aid can help
If you'd like more guidance or help on how to get collecting shoelaces locally, contact your local Christian Aid office for details of the march in your area, what needs doing and who else is involved.
