Mind the gap

Take a year out with Christian Aid.

Now accepting applications for 2008/2009! Apply early to guarantee being considered for a place.

Meet the 2007/2008 gappers here.

Change your life
A gap year spent with Christian Aid can be a life-changing experience. We’ll help you get the knowledge and skills to understand global poverty, and you’ll work with us to tackle it.
‘You are actually able to make a real difference in the fight against global poverty.'
Based in one of our local offices around the UK, you will get local teenagers, university students and youth leaders involved in Christian Aid’s global campaigns and activities.

'I still think that the Christian Aid GAP year is one of the best there is, both because of the support and training you get and because you are actually able to make a real difference in the fight against global poverty.' John, Belfast, 2006

Travel, training, experience
It will be a busy ten months. You'll lead campaigns and workshops and help to recruit new campaigners. You’ll go on an overseas trip.

You'll raise money for Christian Aid with massive fundraising events and visit up to four summer festivals promoting our work (we may even let you listen to some of the music!).

You'll receive lots of training, take part in local and national events and spend a week shadowing another Christian Aid team to learn more about the organisation's work.

Is it for me?
The Christian Aid gap year scheme is for anyone aged 18+ who’s looking to take a year out. Perhaps you’ve just finished uni, or are about to go. Or maybe you've been working and want to change your focus. Either way, this could be the answer.
'Thank you Christian Aid for helping me put my faith and beliefs into action!' Lucy, Birmingham, 2006
You’ll need to be up for some hard work. We'll need you to get out there and meet new people face to face. You will need creativity, lots of energy and a willingness to have a laugh along the way.

And remember to apply early because entry to the scheme is always extremely competitive.
