Applying for the scheme
by Pressureworks, published 19 October, 2007
We accept applications from September throughout the year but we would suggest getting them in as early as possible to guarantee there are still places left – we fill up spaces as soon as we have suitable people.
'As a gapper you become a member of a community; a community of gappers doing the same as you across the country. A community of area staff working to bring Christian Aid's message to the regions and nations; and a community of campaigners from within and without Christian Aid, all working for a common goal.' Jonathan, Leeds, 2006
Applying
Ready to be a Christian Aid gap year volunteer? Here’s how you apply.
The process
Once we’ve read your application form, you may be invited to an info and interview day. The meeting is an opportunity for us to get to know you, help us decide whether you’re suitable for the programme, and for you to grill us with your questions.
‘As a gapper you become a member of a community.’
If you’re accepted, we’ll work out which area office would suit you best. When we’ve decided, we’ll set up a visit for you to see the office and meet the people you’ll be working with.

If everyone’s happy, the placement will be confirmed and you’ll start in September.
The costs
There is no upfront cost for the year and Christian Aid will cover food, accommodation, all your training and travel costs, and the full cost of your overseas visit. The only thing not included is pocket money.
